v1.0 – Preseason Edition: Coming out 7/31/26!
The classic NES sports title is currently being updated for the 2026-27 NFL season! The latest version of Tecmo Super Bowl will include:
- Updated playbooks – The playbook has been modernized for the current NFL. Some of the original plays have moved to different slots, edited and added new plays as well as removed ‘bad’ plays (no more T formation or trick plays that never work).
- Numerous hacks that have been shared over the years by the great resource for Tecmo, TecmoBowl.org.
- Defensive players are setup for either 3-4, 4-3 or nickel defenses (RILB is the nickel back)
- Team uniforms have been edited so home team plays in primary uniform (NFC West teams & divisional matchups excluded due to limitations)
- Sim code updated for more accurate team wins/losses & player stats.
- Changes to numerous sprites as well as palette updates in various locations.
- Updated large and small helmets for all 32 NFL teams (courtesy of lpotter’s amazing edit over at TecmoBowl.org)
